Practice Areas
Masako practices general intellectual property law with an emphasis on patents and licensing. Prior to joining HSML, for two years she served German speaking clients in Tokyo at a German firm, ARQIS Foreign Law Office (formerly called, Haarmann Hemmelrath & Partner). Masako has extensive experience in a broad range of international and domestic licensing and commercial transactions in pharmaceuticals and fine chemicals while working in a pharmaceutical company, currently called ASKA Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., in the Takeda Group, and in a prominent trading company specializing in chemicals and pharmaceuticals, Nagase & Co., Ltd., and Nagase (Europa) GmbH, as a licensing, corporate development, and sales and marketing manager. While in 3M Health Care, Ltd. in Japan, she was responsible for pharmaceutical and medical device licensing, domestic registration, professional services and laboratory work. Masako spent two and half years in Germany while working for Nagase (Europa) GmbH and speaks German. Masako also has experience in tort and product liability litigation as a pro-bono attorney.
