Elizabeth Q. Shipsides focuses her practice on patent preparation and prosecution, intellectual property counseling, and portfolio development. She represents clients ranging from individual inventors and emerging companies to established businesses across a broad range of technologies.

Ms. Shipsides has extensive experience preparing and prosecuting U.S. and international patent applications, responding to office actions, conducting examiner interviews, and coordinating foreign prosecution. Her practice also includes freedom-to-operate, validity, and other opinion work, as well as strategic counseling relating to the development and management of intellectual property portfolios.

Her technical experience encompasses chemical, mechanical, medical device, pharmaceutical, software, and electro-mechanical technologies. Prior to entering private practice, Ms. Shipsides served as a patent examiner with the United States Patent and Trademark Office, where she examined applications relating to laboratory apparatus technologies.

In addition to her legal practice, Ms. Shipsides has been involved in the development and evaluation of artificial intelligence tools designed to assist patent practitioners with patent preparation and prosecution workflows. Her work provides firsthand insight into the capabilities and limitations of artificial intelligence and the evolving challenges associated with protecting AI-related innovations. She leverages this experience to help clients navigate emerging technologies and develop practical intellectual property strategies.

Ms. Shipsides received her Juris Doctor from The Catholic University of America, Columbus School of Law and earned a Bachelor of Chemical Engineering, with a minor in Chemistry, from the University of Minnesota. She is admitted to practice in Minnesota and before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
